Simon is a consultant shoulder, sports and upper limb surgeon.
His main areas of expertise are in sports injuries of the shoulder, instability (dislocations) rotator cuff disorders, frozen shoulder and arthritis. Simon further specialises in disorders of the elbow, wrist and hand such as tennis and golfers elbow, arthritis, ulnar nerve compression and carpal tunnel syndrome.
Simon is a consultant shoulder, sports and upper limb surgeon. Simon consults and operates privately at the Nuffield Hospital in York and Leeds. His NHS practice is based in York District Hospital and Clifton Park Hospital where he has been practising since 2010.

Simon further specialises in disorders of the elbow, wrist and hand such as tennis and golfers elbow, arthritis, ulnar nerve compression and carpal tunnel syndrome.
Simon’s early training was centred in Yorkshire and Australia. His shoulder and upper limb expertise stems from his fellowship experience at the world renowned Alps Surgery Institute in Annecy, France under the expert tutelage of Dr Laurent Lafosse and Dr Bruno Toussaint. This pioneering centre has developed the most advanced techniques for the management of shoulder instability (dislocations), rotator cuff disorders and shoulder replacements for arthritis.
Further to this, he spent a year in the UK’s leading upper limb unit in Wrightington working with Professor Len Funk, Mr Ian Trail and Mr John Haines. This post was a prestigious advanced shoulder, elbow and hand training post comprising the most up to date techniques in upper limb and plastic surgery.
A Personal Approach
Simon’s is dedicated to tailoring each person’s treatment to the condition they are troubled by but also their specific sports, work and social needs. This ranges from the demands of an international athlete to those patients who wish to enjoy a pain free return to weekly sports and leisure activities. In many situations the best management may take the form of non-operative treatments such as physiotherapy or injections. In other situations, surgery may provide the best solution.
Awards
Simon continues to be active in upper limb research and has been awarded the prestigious Mel Post award for Clinical Excellence in Research by the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) and American Shoulder and Elbow Society (ASES) for his contribution to work on nerve disorders in the shoulder.
